Fighting Fatigue - I Am Tired

These past two weeks were extremely tiring for two entirely different reasons: cadaver lab and clinic rotations. Almost every other day I had to jump between two different mindsets; being present and caring for my patients and then being completely open-minded and willing to learn from the donors that have graciously given their bodies for our knowledge. This is also coming only a week after my last term, meaning my brain is still recovering from a grueling finals week. So, I AM TIRED!

If only there were some magic pills out there that could boost our energy as well as provide other vitamins and nutrients to support our immune system while we go through tiring times in our life. Yes, we have caffeine but sometimes it’s just not enough and can leave you with a headache, jitters and dependency. I’m talking about something that could stimulate multiple systems in the body to build a resistance against stress and fatigue.

Fortunately, nature has got that covered and you’ll never guess what it is: mushrooms!  As you may or may not know, mushrooms are chock-full of beta-D-glucans which have been studied and are well known to stimulate the immune system and tonify the cardiovascular system. They also improve oxygen absorption and blood circulation as well as the absorption of iron in the gut, which in turn provides more oxygen to the tissues and the brain resulting in an improvement of brain function, memory, and concentration. Isn’t that amazing?! These little fungi do all of that (and more!).

I want to give a shout out to Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane). This is known as the brain mushroom as its main effect is on the nervous system. It contains hericenones and erinacines that are known to stimulate the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF) which is essential for the regulation, maintenance, and proliferation of nerves. This in turn enhances cognitive function and improves brain activity resulting in better management of stress levels. No wonder this is one of my favorite fungi!

To get me through these last few months, I’ve been taking Eversio Wellness FOCUS Lion’s Mane capsules not only to support my physical fatigue, but most importantly my mental health as it has taken a huge hit since all I do is study, study, study! Also getting in some light exercise as well as fueling my body with healthy, nutritious foods has been the best overall combination.

So, what do you do when you’ve hit the wall? If you haven’t looked into the magic of energy-boosting mushrooms yet, what are you waiting for?
