Episode #65 - When Success Doesn't Feel The Way It Should

Most people spend their whole lives trying to reach where Dr. Laura Foster is.

A thriving chiropractic practice with 150 to 200 patient visits a week. A team of 12 practitioners. A full family life. Iron Man finishes. Financial success. Community. Recognition.

And yet, somewhere in the middle of all of it, something started to go quiet.

Not loudly. Not with a dramatic collapse. Just a small, uncomfortable knowing that the feeling she'd been chasing through every goal and finish line had never quite arrived.

That quiet is what Laura sat with. And what came out the other side changed everything.

In Episode 65 of The Eversio Experience, we sat down with Dr. Laura Foster, a former chiropractor of 25 years who sold her practice, spent three years in Costa Rica, and now leads breathwork, homeopathy, and retreats for women navigating their own versions of that same reckoning.

This is her story. And parts of it might sound familiar.

The Goals Were Working. So Why Wasn't She?

Laura was what you'd call a high achiever in the most complete sense of the word. Not just professionally, but physically, personally, and socially. She prided herself on keeping all the balls in the air simultaneously. And for years, she did.

But there was a moment -- a specific, memorable moment -- that she kept coming back to. She'd just hit a major goal. One with real financial weight. One she'd been working toward for years.

She celebrated for about 10 seconds. Then she was already on to the next one.

"I was setting goals to distract myself from the parts of my life that didn't feel the way I needed them to feel," she told us in the episode. "The same reason I was going 200 kilometers in a race. I was trying to outrun my life."

It's a confession that will feel uncomfortably familiar to anyone who's ever wondered why the promotion, the number, or the finish line didn't feel the way they expected it to.

Laura came to understand that she wasn't chasing achievement. She was chasing the feeling she thought achievement would produce. And because she never stopped to ask what feeling she was actually looking for, no goal would ever deliver it.

The Breakdown Nobody Else Noticed

The hardest part of Laura's breakdown, she says, was that it was almost invisible.

"I let all the balls fall down," she told us. "I don't think anyone else noticed. My whole burn down and rebuild looked like nothing to most people in my life."

For about a year, she sat in the discomfort of what was. She stopped making big decisions. She started saying the right yeses and the right nos. She gave herself breathing room.

She began asking herself questions she'd somehow never asked before: What actually fulfills me? Who am I at the core of my being? What do I actually want from my life?

Not the goals. The feeling behind the goals

Not the goals. The feeling behind the goals.

"There's a big difference between achievement and fulfillment," she said. "We're really not seeking achievement as much as we are seeking fulfillment and, even more so, inner peace."

This is the part that often gets glossed over in transformation stories. The mess. The year of sitting still. The confusion of not knowing what comes next, while also knowing what you have isn't quite it.

Laura lived that year. And she came out the other side knowing herself in a way she hadn't before.

Values Are Not Just a List on a Whiteboard

One of the most practical threads in this conversation is about values, and what it actually means to live them.

Laura's top three: health, love and connection, and freedom.

She had those values the whole time. She just wasn't living them. That gap, between what you value and how you're actually spending your days, is what she now calls the mask. "The bigger the gap between who I am at the core of my being and who I'm being in my life, the bigger the mask I was wearing," she said.

The work was not finding new values. It was closing the gap between the ones she already had and the life she was living.

Brandi shared something that landed for all of us in that moment: during Eversio team check-ins, one of their standard questions is "what are your top three values right now?" It sounds simple. It is not. Try it. You'll need a week and a long Google list.

But once you know them, everything else gets cleaner. Decisions get easier. Relationships get clearer. What drains you and what fills you becomes undeniable.

The 2% Shift (and the Golf Analogy That Changes Everything)

If you take one thing from this episode, take this.

Laura did not blow up her life to change it. She shifted it by 2%.

She uses a golf analogy. She is, by her own admission, the world's worst golfer. But she understands this: when you step up to the ball, where your feet are matters. A tiny shift in your stance means the ball goes in a completely different direction. The adjustment is almost invisible. The trajectory is not.

That is what she did.

She went from a 12-practitioner clinic to a small practice of four. She changed where she lived. She said no to things that no longer matched who she was. She stepped away from a long-running mastermind with four men she loved dearly, because she recognized she was continuing to default to what was familiar rather than what was actually right for her.

"I can make very large change in my life with very small shifts," she said.

For anyone who feels like meaningful change requires total destruction, this is a genuinely useful reframe.

Homeopathy, Breathwork, and the Body That Already Knows

Homeopathy, Breathwork, and the Body That Already Knows

Laura's introduction to homeopathy came 25 years ago when she was 43 weeks pregnant with her first son and a homeopath came to her home. For two hours, she was asked the strangest questions she'd ever heard: What do you dream about? What happened when you fell off your bike as a child? What experiences stand out from your earliest years?

Laura sat there, heavily pregnant and politely confused, and answered all of it. She was given two small sugar pellets of phosphorus. She and her husband decided to go catch the afternoon movie. Five minutes later, full-blown labor.

She's used homeopathy in her practice and her family's care ever since.

What she loves about it mirrors what she believes about healing broadly: "There's always a window into someone's healing. It's not one specific supplement, not one specific remedy, not one intervention. It's asking the person and tuning in to what's the window into their own healing."

She now brings that same philosophy into her breathwork practice and retreats. The question is never the protocol. It's always the person.

What This Means for You

You don't have to be a former Iron Man triathlete running 200 patient visits a week to hear yourself in Laura's story.

Most of us are running some version of the same script, one we absorbed from parents who loved us, teachers who cared, and systems that were not designed with our specific becoming in mind.

The question Laura is really asking, and the one she now helps other women ask, is this: Are you building your life from your actual self, or from what you were handed?

Because the gap between those two things is where the exhaustion lives.

And the good news, as Laura's entire story makes clear, is that you do not have to blow it all up to close it. You just have to be honest about where you're standing. Then move your feet 2%.
