The Mushroom
Getting to know Reishi
What Is Reishi?
Reishi, known scientifically as Ganoderma lucidum, is recognized by its glossy, lacquered fruiting body and long history of traditional use.
Today, you will find Reishi in powders, extracts, capsules, tinctures and mushroom blends. Those products can differ considerably in source material, extraction method and concentration.
A Reishi mushroom and a concentrated Reishi extract are not quite the same thing. When comparing supplements, it helps to look beyond Reishi on the front of the label and see what part of the mushroom is being used, how it was extracted, the extract ratio and what the finished extract contains.
Why Reishi?
Reishi has been used for centuries, and there is something particularly fitting about bringing a mushroom with that kind of history into a modern day.
Today, Reishi is often chosen as an adaptogenic mushroom. Eversio Reishi is used as an adaptogen to help increase energy and resistance to life’s busy demands.
For us, that makes Reishi a natural fit for an everyday routine: one small, deliberate thing you can give a consistent place in your day.
Why a Dual Extract?
Reishi contains naturally occurring compounds with different solubility characteristics, which is why we use a dual extraction process.
Hot water helps break down the mushroom’s tough structure and extract water-soluble compounds, including beta-glucans. It is an important part of how we make an extract standardized to 45% beta-D-glucans.
Alcohol allows us to extract other naturally occurring compounds found in Reishi, including triterpenes.
We put our Reishi through both extraction steps before concentrating the final extract to a 15:1 ratio.
Not every mushroom needs the same extraction process. We choose the method based on the specific mushroom and what we want to extract from it.
Mushroom Math
What does 15:1 actually mean?
An extract ratio tells you how much dried mushroom was used to make the finished extract.
For Reishi, 15:1 means 15 grams of dried Reishi are used to produce 1 gram of extract.
Two capsules contain 500 mg of concentrated extract, with a Quantity Crude Equivalent (QCE) of 7,500 mg.
That does not mean there are physically 7,500 mg packed into the capsules. It means the 500 mg of concentrated extract was made using the equivalent of 7,500 mg of dried Reishi.
| Per 2 capsules | Eversio Reishi | 1:1 Reishi Powder |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | 500 mg | 500 mg |
| Extract Ratio | 15:1 | 1:1 |
| Dried Equivalent (QCE) | 7,500 mg | 500 mg |

Is Reishi Right for Your Routine?
Reishi may be a good choice when you want to make it the focus of your mushroom routine. If you prefer several mushrooms in one formula, Reishi is also part of some of our mushroom blends.
It may be a good fit if you:
- Want Reishi specifically as part of your everyday routine
- Look for 100% Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) fruiting body
- Prefer a concentrated 15:1 dual extract over whole mushroom powder
- Like knowing the extract ratio and beta-glucan content before you buy
- Look for USDA Organic Certified and third-party tested mushroom supplements
- Prefer capsules to something you stir into a drink
- Want something simple to give a consistent place in a full day
How to Compare Reishi Supplements
Reishi supplements can look similar from the front of the bottle. The details on the label tell you much more about what you are actually buying.

The Difference
What are fruiting bodies and mycelium?
Most of a fungus is hidden from view. It spends much of its life as mycelium, a network of fine, thread-like structures. When conditions are right, it produces the fruiting body, the part we recognize as a mushroom.
Mycelium
The network the mushroom grows from. Mycelium is made up of fine, thread-like structures called hyphae that grow through a food source.
Fruiting Body
The part we recognize as the mushroom. For Reishi, this is the glossy, lacquered fruiting body that produces spores.
Think of an apple tree
The tree, roots and all → that’s the mycelium
The apple → that’s the fruiting body
Both belong to the same fungus, but they are different structures.
And what about Reishi spores?
Reishi fruiting bodies produce spores as part of the fungus’s reproductive cycle. You may see Reishi spore powder or “cracked spore” products sold as supplements because the spores have a tough outer wall that needs to be broken before the material inside is more accessible.
Spores are a different source material from the fruiting body. Eversio does not add Reishi spores to our extract. We use the fruiting body itself.
Where grain substrate comes in
Mycelium is sometimes cultivated on grains such as rice or oats. As the mycelium grows, its thread-like network spreads through and becomes intertwined with the grain substrate, making the two difficult to separate.
Because of this, the cultivated material is typically harvested as a whole. The mycelium and grain substrate are processed together, so grain remains in the finished ingredient.
Why Eversio uses the fruiting body
For our Reishi extract, we choose the fruiting body. It gives us a clearly defined starting material from the mushroom itself before we use hot water and alcohol to extract and concentrate its naturally occurring compounds.

The Eversio Experience Podcast
Reishi Mushroom Masterclass
Reishi has been part of Eversio from the beginning, and there is a lot more to this mushroom than we can cover on a product page.
In this episode, Brandi and Dr. Desiree take a deeper look at Ganoderma lucidum, its long history of use, and some of the naturally occurring compounds that have made Reishi an ongoing subject of research, including beta-glucans and triterpenes.
They also explore the bigger conversation around Reishi, adaptogens and why this mushroom continues to hold such an interesting place in both traditional use and modern mushroom research.

Beta-Glucans and Triterpenes
There is more to a Reishi extract than the number of milligrams in the capsule. Two naturally occurring groups of compounds you will come across with Reishi are beta-glucans and triterpenes. They have different properties and behave differently during extraction.
Beta-glucans
Beta-D-glucans are naturally occurring polysaccharides found in mushroom cell walls. They are one of the useful markers we can measure when evaluating a mushroom extract.
Not all polysaccharides are beta-glucans. This distinction matters when comparing mushroom supplements because other ingredients, including grain substrate, can contribute to a total polysaccharide measurement. A high total polysaccharide number does not necessarily tell you how much of the product is mushroom beta-glucan.
That is why we disclose beta-glucans specifically, rather than relying on total polysaccharides. Eversio Reishi is standardized to 45% beta-D-glucans, verified batch by batch.
Triterpenes
Triterpenes are another group of naturally occurring compounds found in Reishi. They are one of the compound groups that continue to be studied in Reishi research.
Triterpenes have different solubility characteristics from beta-glucans, which is one reason hot water alone does not extract the same range of compounds. This is why we use both hot water and alcohol in our Reishi dual-extraction process.

The Ritual
Your Daily Reishi
Some days leave more room than others. Maybe Reishi lives beside your yoga mat, on your nightstand, or with your evening tea. It doesn’t need a perfect evening or a carefully planned routine. Give it a place beside something you already do and let the routine do the remembering for you.
Pair it
With a moment that already belongs to you.
Take your capsules
Take 1–2 capsules once daily.
Make a little room
Breathe deep, make your tea, or simply let the day wind down.
Many people make Reishi part of their evening, but there is no single best time to take it. Consistency matters more than timing. Find the moment that works for you and come back to it tomorrow.
